The company’s origin dates back to the mid-90s when the specialists of the Russian Space Research Institute and Priroda State Center started to develop advanced remote sensing and navigation systems. But only in 2004, the company was officially registered under the current name BARL Research & Production company.
The main solutions of the company include satellite components (payloads, T&C, and high-rate RF lines), satellite ground segment (stationary and mobile satellite control centers, data reception and processing centers), software and GIS (analysis, interpretation, and visualization of data based on geospatial technologies).
In 2018 NPK Barl was placed on the US State Department’s sanctions list for their alleged violation of the rules on the non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction. The company was also involved in a scandal because of supplying the advanced remote sensing satellite to Iran that could give Tehran an unprecedented ability to track potential military targets across the Middle East and beyond.
