The Scientific Research Design and Technological Institute “Istochnik” is the successor of the All-Union Scientific Research Accumulator Institute (VNIAI), which dates back to 1924. The Institute has its own technology for the production of lead batteries and manufacturing of the world’s first nickel-hydrogen batteries.
The company develops chemical current sources for various electrochemical systems, produces accumulators, rechargeable batteries, and electric double-layer capacitors, and conducts scientific research to determine priority areas in developing chemical power sources. The company’s product line includes nickel-cadmium (Ni-Cd), nickel-metal hydride (Ni-Mh), nickel-hydrogen (Ni-H), and lithium-ion (Li-Ion) batteries.
