Founded in 1928, the Belarusian Academy of Sciences is the highest state scientific organization in the country. It is subordinate to the President of the Republic of Belarus and accountable to the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Belarus.
The academy organizes and coordinates fundamental and applied scientific research carried out within all subjects of scientific activity and conducts basic and applied research and development in the most important areas of natural, technical, humanitarian, social sciences, and arts. All of this aims to obtain new knowledge and increase the scientific and technical potential of the Republic of Belarus.
The Academy employs about 16 thousand people. Among them are 5507 researchers, 387 doctors of science, and 1611 candidates of science, including 27 professors and 518 associate professors.
