JSC Research Institute of Mechanical Engineering (NIIMash)

Joint Stock Company Research & Development Institute of Mechanical Engineering (NIIMash, a part of Roscosmos) was founded in 1958. The Russian rocket engine design and manufacturing company specializes in small thrusters. It is located in the city of Nizhnyaya Salda, Sverdlovsk oblast. It started as the B-175 factory of the NII-1 research institute, where Mikhail G. Mironov directed the development of liquid rocket engine research and testing.

Nowadays, the main activity of the enterprise is the development, production, and testing of low-thrust rocket engines and propulsion systems for spacecraft on that basis, including research & development and pilot work, design, production of prototypes, experimental ground tryout, manufacture, testing, and delivery of products for flight operation and flight operation support. Another priority field of activity is the fabrication of air separation products, including liquid oxygen, for medical purposes.
